A home’s HVAC system should cool, and the most basic way it does so is by blowing air over evaporator coils, making its way through your home’s ductwork and eventually out your air vents.
So, what happens when you don’t feel any air coming out of your vents? There could be a few reasons why your AC system is malfunctioning. Try checking these areas first, and then give us a call at Mario’s AC if you need further help.
What To Do if No Air is Coming Out of Your Vents
- Change your air filter - First, change your filter. This takes less than 10 minutes and could drastically improve your indoor air quality and the AC system’s efficiency.
- Check the vents in all other rooms - Is air flowing in some rooms but not others? Conduct an assessment to see if the issue is localized or occurring throughout your property. Also, evaluate whether there is a complete lack of flow in the vents or if the airflow just appears restricted. Be sure the register vents are wide open, and that the AC is on when doing your evaluation. If it appears to be a localized problem, it could be an issue with your ductwork.
- Check your thermostat - Sometimes thermostat settings are not programmed as you’d like them. Try resetting the thermostat and evaluating the settings to see if that makes a difference.
- Check your evaporator coil - If it’s frozen, let it thaw and diagnose why it has iced over (hint: call us for help) It could be because your air conditioner is low on refrigerant. It could also be caused by dirty air filters.
- Clean your condenser unit - A dirty condenser unit could cause the system to overheat and not function properly. Be careful when cleaning the unit, however, and ask for professional help. Refrigerant chemicals and electricity are a factor, and you also don’t want to damage the unit.
