An air filter acts somewhat like a net. Dust, dirt, dander and other debris get caught in the filter. This way, all those impurities don’t circulate. If you don’t change the filter, then clogs emerge. Clogs prevent air from flowing, which can lead to overheating. Overheating can crack the heat exchanger.
