3 Ways to Clean Your Heating SystemOn a chilly night, the last thing you want to deal with is your heater breaking down. However, it can be tough to tell if your heater is just in need of a little DIY cleaning or if it’s time to call in the professionals. To help you get a better idea of how your heater works and to clear up any small issues you may be having, here are three ways to clean out your heater.

1. Keep the Filter Clean

The first and simplest step is to take a look at the filter and clean it out. If you haven’t been cleaning your filter or don’t even know where it is, then it will surely have a buildup of debris that will inhibit your heater’s ability to keep your house nice and toasty. All that debris traps heat, preventing it from getting into the vents and being distributed throughout your home.

Thankfully, cleaning out a filter is pretty straightforward. You don’t need much more than a screwdriver and a rag, but do be careful not to attempt any cleaning while the heater is operating and hot.

2. Remove Debris From Vents

The second place you want to look at is the interface between the ventilation system and your heater. As air flows through it, some debris will naturally build up. For the same reasons listed above, you want to get rid of that debris regularly and make it much easier for your heater to deliver heat. Let Mario's AC in Hudson take care of this job for you. Too much buildup in your vents can also cause problems with the quality of air in your home as all that hot air flowing throughout your vents will pick up some of those particles and will circulate in the air you breathe.

3. Check the Heat Exchanger Block

The third and most involved option is still fairly simple. If you’re sure that the filter and vents aren’t causing problems, then it may be time to clean off the heat exchanger block. Given the nature of the residue on the block, you may need something like a toothbrush in order to really get in there and remove the grim. Again, make sure that the heater is off before proceeding. Our skilled technicians can knock out this task in no time.

If you’ve gone through these steps and still haven’t resolved your problem, then let the professionals handle it.
